Hi folks,

had a look at Studland yesterday, fantastic weather for March. Loads of grass snakes (well 7 or 8) in one bracken patch - must be the hibernaculum I suppose. No adders or smooth snakes seen, but 1 lone ranger sand lizard hiding in the bracken near to the grass snakes. Are adders becoming rare at Studland or am I just not very good at finding them probably a bit of both.

A mini mating ball of 2  ?

Below, sand lizard, my first of the year!

Hope the fine weather continues!

Dave

They sure are getting scarcer in the past they where
very abundant & you sometimes see them in the beach area ,
even the sandies are nowhere near as prolific due to the
disturbance by holiday traffic.but they are still hanging
in there!
